Boy, am I ready for the weekend! My first week after getting back from Guatemala visiting our daughter wasn't too bad, but it seemed extra slow. I am also ready for an update from our agency telling us we are in PGN. PGN is a court in Guatemala similar to our Attorney General in the US. PGN is the last big stage before bringing Gabriella home. While we were down there, our interpreter who works for our attorney told us we would probably be in PGN by the end of this week. Our agency also said we'd probably be in by the end of this week. Well, I didn't hear anything from my agency this week about it. I'm trying to be patient. I will probably call our agency the middle of next week, if I don't hear anything.
The main question I get from all well-meaning people is, "When are you going to be able to bring her home?". It's so frustrating, because we have no idea!!!!!! One of my coworkers asks me this question everyday. Today, I finally told her that she will definitely know when I know because I will be doing cartwheels down the hallway. I don't think anyone has to worry, because I will not be keeping it a secret!
The thing with PGN is that it's the last big hurdle, but it could be a long run. From everything I've read, the "powers-that-be" in PGN are VERY picky with all of the documents we work so hard collecting and preparing. They could find a slight mistake and we would get what is called, a "previo", which means we would be kicked out and have to get that document fixed. After it's fixed, we would be resubmitted to PGN. After being resubmitted, another previo could be given for any other mistake. This process continues until the "powers-that-be" are happy with all the documents and they approve your case and let you out of PGN. PGN could last several weeks or several months. IT'S MADDENING!!!!! If anyone is interested in reading about the step-by-step process to adopt a baby from Guatemala see, http://www.guatefam.org/process.htm
