We're Home

We arrived home from our first visit to Guatemala two nights ago. This was the first time Dave and I met our daughter. We spent 7 days and 7 nights with her. It was our first brush with parenthood. I was so excited to meet her after seeing her pictures for 5 months. We received her referral from our agency on August 21st, 2006. She was 12 days old. We received DNA results from the her biological mother and her around December 7 th and were finally able to travel to Guatemala. We stayed at the Marriott in Guatemala City. It was a nice hotel with a great buffet! We weren't allowed to leave the hotel for the entire week and I thought I would go stir crazy by the last day.
We got to meet Gabriella's foster mother and father. Gabriella is their 1st and only baby and you can tell how much they love her. The only thing that got me through leaving Gabriella in Guatemala yesterday was seeing how much her foster family loves her and seeing how well they are caring for her. Don't get me wrong, Dave and I both cried like babies when we actually had to see her go with her foster mother, but at least I was able to keep from grabbing Gabriella and running from the hotel screaming, "you're not getting her!", like a crazy woman (because I very well could have.)

As Gabriella's Grammy, I couldn't be more thrilled about the adoption! Lori and Dave will be wonderful parents and provide all the love and opportunities necessary for Gabriell to grow and thrive in their home. She is beautiful. They will be the perfect little family!!! I look forward to our trip to Guatemala to meet her. Wouldn't it be wonderful if she came home before our scheduled trip!!!!
